Building Wybie
My son Tim and I decided on Saturday night February 7th we were going to go to the special Coraline event at the Emagine theater. We had nothing ready, it was 7pm and the event was at 11am the next day. We went to home depot to see if we could get our hands on a welder mask and other things with which to fabricate our Wybie. After home Depot we went next door and found the jacket we would use after some minor changes. Getting home we were set up and ready to build at about 8:30pm.
Here are the materials we were able to scrounge up on a saturday night at 8 pm. Start time: 8:39 pm
After several primer coats to be sure the paint would stick I began painting the skull. The shape of the Welder mask was not quite the same so I had to wing it with the lay out a bit.
Here is the lens turret once I used epoxy to attach them to the base plate. The lenses were pvc fittings and the base was a clean out cover. When Home Depot is the only place to try to find stuff for a project you would be amazed what you find.
Lens turret attached. We didn't have time to install lights but by Halloween 2009 I will install green LED lights in the lenses.
A test fit. The jacket was just a black jacket we found in the store next door and used white duct tape to add the stripes.
Three hours and four minutes later we have something that sort of resembles our goal. All things considered I guess for a quickie we did ok. I still want to tweak the mask a bit before Halloween by adding the lights and the hand crank to the side.

Emagine Theater on Sunday February 8th
Buster puppet meets Victoria Rose Zelewski. Victoria worked on Coraline as puppet repair and fabrication. She was having a private screening for family and friends the same day so it was a great treat to meet and chat with her.
Tim..err..I mean Wybie meets Victoria.
And thats our Wybie tale. It was fun to attempt to do something on such short notice. We had fun and thats what it's about. now...go out and see Coraline =)
